When a hasty government cover-up sparks protests, Mengliu, a young poet, and his girlfriend Qizi are swept up in the movement. In the crackdown that follows, Qizi, like so many others, disappears. Years later, while still searching for Qizi, Mengliu ends up in the seemingly perfect Swan Valley. But soon Mengliu uncovers the horrible cost of maintaining such perfection.
