Abstract:
Ousmane Sembè̀ne was a Senegalese dockworker and fifth-grade dropout who became the self-taught father of African cinema, and fought enormous odds to return African stories to Africa. This documentary uses archival footage and exclusive materials to tell the true story of an ordinary man who transforms himself into a fearless spokesperson for the marginalized, making powerful films and becoming a hero to millions. But after a startling fall from grace, can Africa's storyteller reinvent himself once more?
