Set at the beginning of this century, this true story is about Landru, a small clerk who puts matrimonial ads in the paper for moneyed, single women without families. He meets them, seduces them, asks them to come to his home in the town of Gambais, there he kills them after they have signed over all their wealth to him. Suspicious neighbors alert the police and Landru is finally arrested and guillotined.
