Abstract:
"TechLab: Experiments in media art 1999-2019 is an overview of the Surrey Art Gallery's TechLab program. At the time of its conception in the late 1990s, it was the first space dedicated exclusively to the exhibition of new media art in a Canadian art institution. Since that time, it has hosted dozens of residencies, exhibitions, and installations, providing a leading model for the integration of learning, art, and innovation that has since been adopted throughout the art world. In addition to summaries of each exhibition, and biographies for every artist and curator to have been affiliated with the space, the text includes analytical essays by academics and curators Robin Oppenheimer, Caroline Seck Langill, Karen Armstrong, Beryl Graham, and Jordan Strom. This text will be a resource for any study of the Canadian new media art landscape."-- Provided by publisher.
