Abstract:
Chronicles the ordinary interactions and everyday routines of the Watsons, an African-American family living in Flint, Michigan, in the 1960s and how they are drastically changed after they go to visit Grandma in Alabama in the summer of 1963. The whole family piles into their old car for the trip to Birmingham. While traveling in the South, they encounter overt racism and segregation, and a tragic event that will shake their world. They realize that the love of family gives them the strength to endure almost anything.
