Real estate developer Dharmen Shah rose from nothing to create an empire, and hopes to seal his legacy with a building named the Shanghai, which promises to be one of Mumbai's most elite addresses. When Shah offers a generous buyout to the residents of a crumbling apartment building on whose site this luxury high-rise would be built, they can't believe their good fortune. All but one: a retired schoolteacher called Masterji, who refuses to abandon his home.
