The 1st work is "a discursive tone poem" [in which] "the viola d'amore takes center stage." The 2nd work "exist[s] in two versions - one for solo piano (which Ruggles continued to revise from 1934 to 1953) and the other for orchestra (an augmentation created by the composer in 1943)." The 3rd work is a symphonic poem
