Pendergast is missing and his ward, Constance, has just been kidnapped by a shadowy figure from the past. But when Proctor sets off in pursuit, he soon makes a ghoulish discovery. It appears the kidnapper has already taken his revenge ... or is something more insidious going on beneath the surface?
