Abstract:
Bali, Indonesia, is one of the world's most exotic and interesting islands. Here the traditional way of life, customs and beliefs continue side-by-side with changes brought by tourism. The majority of the 3 million inhabitants follow the Hindu religion. Temples and religious practices are part of daily life and attract interest from tourists. Many local people make a living by selling goods at temples. Others work in the countryside, living in villages and are mainly involved in rice cultivation. Bali's art and crafts are well regarded and are an important part of the economy. Traditional dance has flourished as overseas visitors want to see the culture of the island as well as its scenic beauty. The program explores tourist areas such as Kuta and the village areas, towns and rural areas to see how traditions and tourism can support each other. The landscapes and lifestyles are shown following a popular route taken by many tourists on a 10 day visit.
