Abstract:
Commonly referred to as the Last Shangri-La, Guangxi Province, located at the Southern Coast of China is well known for its astonishing scenery of the impressive Dragon{u2019}s Backbone rice terraces and Its tall jagged green mountains that are situated beside clear blue waters. It is said that the mountains and rivers in Guangxi are the most picturesque in the world. Guangxi inhabits a relatively high concentration of ethnic minorities which can be recognized by their traditional clothing. The most remarkable appearances are those of the Yao-women. These women have extremely long hair that reaches their ankles, but is usually worn in a bun. The Yao ethnic group has managed to preserve its ancient culture and folk customs, including its distinctive songs and dances. They have thrived as farmers in the mountainous region of Guangxi for generations by developing an extraordinary irrigation system utilizing bamboo tubing. Their life is very simple and one that is focused on preservation of land and water. Appreciation of nature and living in harmony with it has led the Yao people to their humble and content way of life. This is the real Last Shangri-La.
