Abstract:
"Among the treasures rediscovered in the BBC archives are two recitals by the soprano Elisabeth Schwarzkopf that were filmed in 1961 and 1970, when she was at the very peak of her powers and was partnered by a pianist who was without doubt the greatest accompanist of the 20th century: Gerald Moore. These two recitals allow us to re-encounter Schwarzkopf in her favourite repertory. Her anthology of German lieder takes us on a journey through the imaginative worlds of Mozart, Schubert and Wolf, but that journey would have been incomplete without footage of a public concert that was filmed by French television, a concert in which the soprano's voice melds wondefully with the orchestra's instrumental sonorities in words by Mozart, Verdi and Strauss."--Container.
