After receiving a message from a wealthy woman about a possible attempt on her life, Inspector Poirot travels to the village of Market Basing to investigate. Upon his arrival, Poirot finds that he is too late, and that the woman is already murdered. However, Poirot is left with little clues and must uncover the small town's big secrets.
